Specification discloses a method and apparatus for the depolymerisation of plastics material (1), in particular in recycling plastic waste, by means of heat introduction. Plastics material is molten to form a plastics melt and degassed before being passed to a depolymerisation reactor (3) having a heating device (3’). A heavy oil, having a final boiling point of > 300 °C and having a share of aromatic hydrocarbons of at least 25% added to a supply circuit (4) via a solvent introduction device (6’) to improve viscosity of the plastics melt.
