At the end of the day, there will be deficits forevermore until we bring the following three items under control: * Interest on the debt * Entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid) * Military spending Those are the top 3 items and they are all very bloated. They are bankrupting this country. I don't have any hope that those 3 items will every be brought under control. Fiscal profligacy, corruption, and deficits brought the Roman Empire down. It will bring the US down too. It is just a matter of time. The reason why is that Democrats and Republicans refuse to believe that we need to manage our spending. That is the cold hard truth.
