As I understand it she used the claim of Native American heritage to her advantage at universities to enhance her diversity status, which allowed her certain benefits in advancement. The problem, of course, is that to the extent Native American heritage affects diversity status, hers was so low — lower than that of the average white American — that it actually REDUCED her level of diversity instead of decreasing it.

Now, I don’t personally care. If Harvard wants to try to boost its image in that way, it is fine. She probably THOUGHT she was a Native American. But the DNA test result didn’t show that, although Politifact has already claimed otherwise.

She would have been better off by not releasing this result. If she runs for president she is going to be answering questions on this from start to finish.
