Tesla’s Newest, Cheapest Model 3 Sedan Is Coming
The forces that be may be trying to tamp down Elon Musk’s Tesla-related tweeting—but he can still make news on Twitter .
On Thursday night, the Tesla (TSLA) chief executive took to Twitter to tell the world that a lower-cost, “midrange” Model 3 sedan was now available for order.
Since the car was billed as the “affordable Tesla” when it was announced, the announcement was, for many, overdue—especially in light of the company’s announcement of a $64,000 “performance” version earlier this year.
Now there are three choices: The new one, the performance model, and a “long-range” version between the two. A version wit a “standard battery,” Tesla says, will be available within 6 months.
Tesla’s website puts the new car’s purchase price at $45,000 before fees and taxes. It estimates the actual price, after estimated savings, at closer to $33,000, including gas savings, for a rear-wheel drive version with an estimated 260-mile range and a 5.6-second race to 60 miles an hour.
