Hi Josh, They make not be hexagonal as a precaution to prevent over torquing. I did buy stainless steel hose for my new Maytag washer. The hose fitting on the washer is plastic and the installation instruction caution to hand tighten and advance 3/4 turn more. Just sayin Bob
