It's possible that one reason for apparent excess wafer capacity going forward is the gain in efficiency and cost reductions from improved 3D flash memory. It also seems to me that Chinese firms are making faster progress in their own production of solid state memory. These factors might explain why WDC shares have been trading in the $50 range, but they don't explain the latest decline. What other factors might be responsible?
