10/26/2018 Contest update
You’d think they would have waited for Halloween. But, for reasons unknown to mortal men, angry algorithmic apparitions spent much of this week haunting Wall Street. And among the most horrified investors were those huddled in the biotech sector as they watched their 2018 gains disappear into the netherworld .
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was now down -6.45% YTD (vs. up 2.00% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was now down -2.88% YTD (vs. up 4.18% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was now down -5.35% YTD (vs. up .58% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 3.82% YTD (vs. up 7.90% YTD a week ago).
THID’s portfolio, up 77.29% YTD, weathered the storm fairly well and held on to first place. KEOKA’s portfolio, up 71.22% YTD, actually gained for the week and moved into second place, while KMASTR’s portfolio, up 64.49% YTD, fell to third place.
At Friday's close, only 26 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 29 beating the NBI and 30 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD loss of -5.95% and a median YTD loss of -21.65%, with only 74 showing a gain for the year.
