| | Telia Carrier, Infinera demonstrate 600 Gbps on U.S. production network

Infinera (NASDAQ:INFN) and customer Telia Carrier say they have demonstrated single-wavelength 600-Gbps on the latter’s production fiber-optic network. The demonstration, which the two assert is the first of its kind, comes prior to the commercial availability of 600-Gbps capabilities on Infinera’s platforms, which the company says will occur in the first quarter of next year.
The trial, conducted on Telia’s commercial network between Palo Alto and San Francisco, CA, leveraged the upcoming Infinite Capacity Engine 5 (ICE5) coherent transmission technology. Infinera announced the ICE5, as well as plans for the ICE6, at OFC 2018 this past March (see “Infinera fifth Infinite Capacity Engine ICE5 supports 2.4 Tbps”). The 600-Gbps capability, demonstrated in this instance aboard already fielded FlexILS platforms, used the ICE5’s 64-QAM modulation and 69-Gbaud operational features.
