My plumber (uncle) once told me the garbage disposer was a problem waiting to happen. My wife caused any number of problems with it. I just couldn't get her to run enough water through each time she used it. I bot a 20 foot plumber's snake that kept us out of expensive trouble several times. I rarely use mine anymore. What little garbage (food waste) I generate I keep in a container in the freezer. It goes out with the trash weekly.
