The average home in Hawaii uses twice the national average of electricity. In addition the cost per kwh is double because of the expense to import petroleum powered electricity. Hawaii is the most fossil fuel dependent state in the country but there is a clean energy initiative setting goals to achieve 100 percent clean energy by 2045.
