11/2/2018 Contest update
A huge gain on Thursday managed to put biotechs in the green for the week. In part, the rebound was likely related to biotech hedge fund buying following their end-of-October tax loss selling. But upcoming election day jitters may have thwarted a Friday follow through.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up .37% YTD (vs. down -6.45% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 1.33% YTD (vs. down -2.88% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -1.06% YTD (vs. down -5.35% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 6.57% YTD (vs. up 3.82% YTD a week ago).
THID’s portfolio, up 78.69% YTD, remained the Contest leader, with KEOKA’s portfolio, up 78.17% YTD, a smidgen behind in second place, while POMP’s portfolio, up 62.81% YTD, moved into third place.
At Friday's close, 32 of the 62 Contest portfolios were now in the green, with 29 still beating the NBI and 32 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD loss of -.83% and a median YTD loss of -19.18%, with 80 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: SNMX buyout at $1.50. Only GHMM’s portfolio held SNMX and I used 11/2/18 close for reallocation.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a stress-free pre-election weekend biotechies! And don’t forget to vote!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
