We are a strange bunch - like betting on horses, we know we will likely lose but the thrill of a chance, slim though it be, hooks us. And our entire way of life is built on it - the stock market economy and its fuel - patents and inventions. Most fail but ah, the chance! And competition. I remember getting little coloured stars in early grade school as an award of achievement. Still looking for them!
