And there are big variances from state to state on hoe ER care can be billed. In many states, if you go to the ER it is covered under your insurance coverage based on the limits of your coverage. No difference if the ER docs have a contract with the insurance company or not. Blame your state if they allow otherwise"

That is the problem, there are way too many 'exceptions' in our healthcare system. I could post examples outside of the ER, etc,etc. Getting healthcare in this country is a minefield that the average person should not have to navigate. From what I read systems in places like France do not have that problem, but unless we eventually go to something like a medicare option for those under 65 we are stuck for now...

edit - I was thinking about your response to the ER article I posted, even if the number is 85% your response is ludicrous - do you actually expect someone having a heart attack to know his/her ER uses EmCare, and if so possibly tell the ambulance crew to go to another hospital - if it happens to be a rural area, potentially many miles away? Come on....
