To recent discussions about Ascend as a buyout canidate by Lucent. I would only by Ascend if you are convinced it will perform at or better than the market without being bought up. Let the pros handle the merger arbitrage--even they end up being wrong as much as they are right. But if you buy a company that is a good investment on its own and its get bought out at a premium . . . that's an INVESTORS dream come true. I may add to my Lucent stake as money comes available.
