I really doubt that database engines will directly be able to handle multi-media effectively. Instead it makes much more sense for a database engine to defer the storage and retrieval of multi-media to specific subsystems. I have experienced this first hand in several interactive television trials. The objective I would strive for is multi-media integration rather than inclusion.
