Always like to read what Singapore's Senior Minister Lee is up to.


Over the Christmas Holidays SM Lee Kuan Yew stated that he can no longer be the mediator for China v. Taiwan issues, citing a conflict in ideologies where he and President Lee are concerned.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - The United States and Singapore on Thursday announced a new agreement for U.S. aircraft carriers, submarines and other warships to use a planned $35 million naval base here for port visits and maintenance beginning in the year 2000.

The surprise announcement at a joint press conference drew praise from visiting U.S. Defense Secretary William Cohen, who called it further evidence of the desire by both countries for the American military to help maintain security in the Asia-Pacific region.
