You never had a "private" account. They just desegregated the funds. It was an accounting gimmick in my mind. Throughout my life there were numerous "fixes" which resulted in raising the ceilings and retirement age. Yah they gave away some benefits that should have come from a different source. Not sure what the overall affect was from that but certainly did not help. I don't think the system was ever on a sound actuarial basis.

Government has NEVER been able to fix / control SS or Medicare and people desire to have the government to do more. INSANITY.

Not a fan of John Kennedy but when he said "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" he was spot on and prophetic of the welfare state.
