Speaking for myself, the CPC is like the Freedom Caucus in one key respect: they represent an edge of the Dems, not the middle. If the CPC pushes the house too far to the left, the Reps will use that as a cudgel to label Dems as crazy Socialists who want to take everyone’s money and spend it on saving spotted owls. The absolute best thing that Pelosi can do for America over the next two years is to push through middle of the road legislation that has broad, substantial support among all Americans. Things like a moderate health care fix, infrastructure spending, and modest tax increases on high incomes come to mind. Dems need to present as the adults in the room, not the far left wing alternative to the right wingers. For the past 30 years, Reps have made liberAlism a dirty word. Dems need to show America that they are the party of reasonable solutions that have broad support. Democratic bills may still die in the senate, but let’s make sure that they are supported by a clear majority of the country so they can be used to take back the Senate and presidency in 2020.
