Given that fossil fuel is required to make anything technological in the renewable realm, how is that possible?
It'll be possible because in that scenario, renewable energy won't completely replace fossil fuels, but instead will reduce the demand thereof.

Of course, what will really happen is that fossil fuel prices will drop until it meets one of two levels:

1) The price of comparable renewable energy.

2) The cost of digging up said fossil fuels.

#1 will ensure that fossil fuel prices will stay on par with renewable energy prices.

#2 is the real floor to consider, but we're a long way off from that.

Either way, the complexities of energy prices can all be sorted out by the free market. Technology will enable that.
