OT.

I've been screwed, tossed out and screwed again by these big data companies so I'm not about to give them any more personal information unless I get something of value from it, such as reduced driving times to and from windsurfing.

I started selling books for Amazon back in 1997 at a 15% commission to my readers at Suite101 investing and personal finance site at my "Amazon Store." As Amazon got better known and more trusted, they didn't value my recommendation as much so they slowly cut commissions to 4%. To make matters worse, if I built a relationship with customers so they would do repeat purchases from my store (a name with tools to help grow sales) Amazon decided I should not get commissions from those customers, even if they bought with a direct link from my sites. Amazon now pretty much only pays for new customers from links to their products in stories I write or recommendations on social media or from occasional buyers who are not regular customers.

People will sell stuff on Amazon and if they discover they can make it cheaper and sell it to customers of the sellers, then they can step in front of their own partners and undercut them with some knock off Chinese brand. I'd wager they get some extra profit or directly own these knockoff brands since if they were paid a straight commission, it would benefit Amazon to have their higher cost partners continue to do well on their platform.

So... I'll use them to get great prices and pay for Prime for the great content and quick delivery time but I'm not giving them any more marketing data than I have to.
