11/16/2018 Contest update
It was another roller coaster week for biotechs, but despite the Thursday and Friday uphill crawl last week’s final numbers remained beyond reach.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -4.51% YTD (vs. down -2.97% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -1.56% YTD (vs. up .97% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -6.19% YTD (vs. down -4.82% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 4.99% YTD (vs. up 7.29% YTD a week ago).
Both Contest leader THID’s portfolio, up 54.08% YTD, and second place KEOKA’s portfolio, up 51.01% YTD, had rough weeks but still managed to hold their rankings. SPTAD’s portfolio, up 47.69% YTD, had less of a hard time and slipped into third place.
At Friday's close, 26 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 27 beating the NBI and 33 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD loss of -7.25% and a median YTD loss of -26.34%, with just 78 still showing a gain for the year.
