My point was that every politician only tries to satisfy his/her voter pool, because those are the only ones that really matter. And the voters in turn only case about their representative and what he/she brings for them.

This is of course an over-generalization because we do care about what happens on the national stage - but never enough to override local agenda. The bigger picture only matters when there is no/little impact on the local issues.
