Let's see now. MU and WDC have forward earnings in the 4 to 5 range. MU and WDC have forward PEs in the 4 and 5 range because investors assume the forward estimates are wrong and will in reality be much lower. Analyst's forecasts never accurately predict the depths of a downturn. If prices are collapsing analysts will just cut the next quarter's EPS, have about the same EPS in the following quarter, and have it slowly trend back up after that. And then they do the same thing in the following quarter. If EPS is going to be lower 6 quarters in a row, the analyst will not predict it.
