Ah, The Children! Of course! Why didn't I think of that? Well, if you want my opinion (and few do), most of the children of my acquantance could stand a little stunting of their lung power. Just kidding, folks. Honest! Just kidding. I'd still be more concerned about the fire hazard, but The Children will get 'em what they want every time. Bottom line is that I agree with you. Too much government equals Big Brother.

Funny you should mention California and weird weather and other disasters. As a matter of fact, just a few days ago there was a tornado in (I believe) Long Beach, which is on the Southern California coast. It did considerable damage to buildings, vehicles, and people. As for blizzards, we have those all the time up in the High Sierras and other mountainous regions and at what others who live in more normal states would consider unorthodox times of the year.

I was telling a friend just he other day that only in California would the state of the weather consistently be the lead story in the newspapers and on television news reports.
