VP, it is true. Historically the Cdn. economy has been largely resource based, although this no longer holds as much as it once did. What would you rather talk about over breakfast, shares of Dia Met, or shares in Canadian Tire? :)

Also, until recent years, the Cdn press and the financial community treated US stocks like 'foreign stocks' & a lot of people put way too much focus on the few same old boring names in the Canadian markets like Molson and Bell Canada. People are getting a lot more sophisticated now.

The penny markets have long been a source of amusement for Canadians, and easy profits for more than a few promoters. This of course is changing with the substantial numbers of cool tech co's that are born here now.

Obviously though we talk about resources over breakfast for good reason. For a lot of people, oil, gold, nickel, etc. put breakfast on the table.
