Hi Dave, this is a nice little hideout you've dug in the SI recesses. I don't think it can stay a secret for too long, given that there are others who bookmark both you and me. The more, the merrier, isn't it?

Onto the business at hand:

As you may already know, I am using SuperCharts 4.0-- I just recently bought it, but I am already beginning to feel that I am suffocating from its programming capabilities. All I can run are if/then statements within the trading system. I can't (at least for now), for example, create a running tally of short term indicator crossovers as a mini-program to be acted upon by the larger trading system itself. For example, if this little indicator crossed over too frequently over a given period of time, I would not be able to automate the process and tell my system to switch to a short term trading style, as opposed to a longer term trend following system.

I'm going to see if I can find out anything about this over the weekend, but I have the feeling that its capabilities could be limited due to the existence of their top-of-the-line TradeStation. At nearly 10 times my cost for SuperCharts (I got a nice deal), I highly doubt that the price multiple given TradeStation is directly proportionate to the added benefit I would receive from upgrading. (With all this talk of price multiples, it sounds like I could be talking about a stock...lol. Maybe that's why OMGA is down 75% since its IPO just a few months ago.)

So I'm beginning to explore my options...and naturally Metastock 6.5 came to mind. I'll venture the guess that you're using Metastock. Given that both the retail prices are the same, I had assumed that the features on both would be similar, but is that really the case? What are your opinions on Metastock (or W.O.W., if you have it)? In particular, how flexible are the programming capabilities? Also, when you backtest your trading systems, is it applied to only one stock (as is the case with SuperCharts), or can it be run automatically to give consolidated results for any number of stocks you specify?

Some good answers could make me a Metastock owner. Once I get past this preliminary stage, I hope we can go straight into the indicators and system styles.

Thanks a bundle,

Rainier
