11/30/2018 Contest update
I can’t say the same for the president, but biotechs had a pretty good week.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -2.12% YTD (vs. down -4.68% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 2.17% YTD (vs. down -3.14% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -3.89% YTD (vs. down -7.62% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up 6.19% YTD (vs. up .52% YTD a week ago).
As we head into the homestretch, we have a new Contest leader! Now in first place is SPTAD’s portfolio, up 56.23% YTD, with THID’s portfolio, up 53.73% YTD, dropping to second place and KEOKA’s portfolio, up 47.97% YTD, dropping to third place.
At Friday's close, 26 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 25 beating the NBI and 32 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD loss of -5.89% and a median YTD loss of -24.52%, with 81 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: The CORI buyout by Gurnet Point Capital closed and trading stopped on 11/26. The buyout price was $12.50 a share plus a contingent value right (CVR). To account for the CVR value, I used $12.68, the 11/26 CORI close, for the reallocation price. Four Contest portfolios held CORI: FREDH, GENE, RKRW, ROBO. To make the reallocation less time consuming for myself, I used the Friday, 11/30, closing prices to determine the number of additional shares allocated to the portfolios. If there are objections to that decision, please let me know and I’ll reconsider.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a fine first December weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
