We didn't take bathroom breaks. Well, we did but not for the cat. I just put a small tray of kitty litter on the floor in the back seat and then brought it into the hotel room. I don't recall if he used it in the car. I put it there "just in case". I'm sure he'll be fine. Who knows, he might really enjoy it. I've seen cats catching the sun on dashboards and back windows in other cars plenty of times. The trip back will be better because he'll already have one long trip under his belt. As a side note, none of the hotels or motels we stayed at were pet friendly and we had to sneak him in which was easy because we stopped to rest pretty late at night. We would check in, go to the room, then open an exit door away from the lobby to bring the cat in. I suppose we could have taken him in with the luggage but didn't want to take the chance of him being spotted.
