More from Vietnam
Bridge at the former DMZ. While fairly comfortable in the South, crossing this bridge left a queasy feeling in my stomach. I was in "enemy" territory, in a way:

A high school classmate of mine, friends on Facebook but hadn't been face to face in 40 years. We had 3 weeks of overlapping time in Vietnam, but didn't expect to meet. Then one morning at 3:30am I made a FB report on my travels... and she responded 10 seconds later, so I began a chat session ("what are you doing up at 3:30 am???") with her. She told me she and her husband would arrive in Phong Nha the next afternoon, and I responded that we were also going to arrive the next afternoon. So we met at Paradise Cave and had a nice visit.

I wanted to see China, so our guide took us right up to the border, a little path through the brush to a barbed wire fence. I never crossed over the fence, but my iPhone says the photo was taken in Yunnan, China
