From Nov. 1: Start of Day 3. Off to see the Mekong delta, floating market, monkey bridge, orchards and plantations. The great news: we survived 2 days of Saigon traffic! Traffic rules here are simple. Don’t worry about staying in your lane, don’t be concerned if oncoming traffic is in your lane, traffic signals should be ignored, most of the time. The supreme rule is to do whatever it takes to get from your present location to wherever you need to be. Somehow in all this chaos there is some order. There’s really no way to describe it, photos can’t do justice. You must experience it to understand. We took a taxi during rush hour. Wow! Before that, on our first day we wanted to cross the street through a torrent of traffic. Wife said “let’s go “ as she stepped onto the street, I pulled her back and said frantically “not yet!”. She glared at me and said “have to!”, to which I responded simply “I’m not ready to die!” |
