12/7/2018 Contest update For much of the four-trading day week investors watched in dread as stocks did a wild algorithmic dance choreographed by computers made in China. And when the music stopped at week’s end, to their horror, their portfolios were strewn with Death Crosses. So, no surprise, at Friday’s close the Contest median was down -7.83% YTD (vs. down -2.12% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -3.02% YTD (vs. up 2.17% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -7.94% YTD (vs. down -3.89% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up .95% YTD (vs. up 6.19% YTD a week ago). Although not immune to the week’s Bear bashing, SPTAD’s portfolio, up 44.89% YTD, remained in the Contest lead. THID’s portfolio, up 43.88% YTD and KEOKA’s portfolio, up 36.20% YTD, also held on to their second and third place ranks. At Friday's close, 22 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 22 also beating the NBI and 32 still beating the SPSIBI. The 230 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD loss of -9.98% and a median YTD loss of -27.08%, with a mere 77 showing a gain for the year. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.) Portfolio adjustments: None. (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.) Enjoy a safe & relaxing weekend biotechies! Peace & good health, Bulba
