Afternoon of Day 9 and I still haven’t died! Woke up this morning feeling much better. I’m thoroughly behind on my reports, and we’re leaving in a few minutes for more sightseeing.

Day 8 (Thursday) Saigon to Mui Ne, through rubber plantations and dragon fruit heaven.

We traveled east from Saigon on a well maintained and lightly traveled highway, me with tissue paper in both nostrils to plug the constantly running faucets, passing by lotus ponds and rubber plantations. The rubber plantations gave way to miles of dragon fruit farms.

Before and after. In the first photo, my mother in law at Domaine de Marie in Da Lat around 60 or 65 years ago. In the second, my wife earlier today.

Da Lat is so different from how it was when my wife attended school here that it’s not like returning home, but like staring at the proof that home no longer exists.
