Ken, I've used CCleaner every day for years. Recently CCleaner was bought by Avast and I considered abandoning it, but nothing else quite measures up.

Using Firefox and Thunderbird on Windows 7, the secret lies in setting up Firefox so that CCleaner can operate successfully. Specifically, in FF Options, Privacy and Security, set it up like so:

  • Please note that because I use a password manager, I don't use FF logins
  • Also note that I save history, sometimes for months. Before I delete it, it gets saved as a text file.

Now you're ready. Next post: how to preset CCleaner.

Jim
