Politicians are trying to treat climate change as if it is the root cause of our problems, when it is just one of the symptoms. They are telling people that if only we all put filters on our unfiltered Camels we can smoke as much as we want.

No politician wants to deliver the news that if humans around the world want to live the West's degenerate consumerist lifestyle, then there had better be a quick and drastic reduction in the human population, else most other species go extinct from habitat loss and climate change, sea levels dramatically rise, and the oceans become mere repositories for plastic.

Driving a Tesla and using LED light bulbs might make some folks feel good, but it is like taking a couple of aspirins to treat lung cancer. While population growth is slowing, it is 150 years too late.

There is no obvious solution to this problem beyond greatly reducing the human death rate, which most folks would be reluctant to sign up for. If world leaders would educate people on the real problem, perhaps someone out there might be able to come up with a kinder and gentler solution.

In the meantime, perhaps the French will be making Port and Finland will be making Champagne.
