The stock has experienced accumulation, or professional buying, since the second week in November, yet remains about 60% off its peak of 80 set last January. fool.com Ascend Communications (Nasdaq: ASND) picked up $1 1/4 to $30 3/16 after BA Robertson Stephens raised its rating on the datacom products company to "buy" from "long-term attractive." Analyst Paul Johnson pointed to the company's carrier class ATM switches, saying they "could emerge as one of the few critical components within next-generation carrier networks." As for current business conditions, Johnson said pricing for switching products and remote access equipment is stabilizing.
