About six or seven years ago I was researching Chinese construction companies. To my surprise, many of them had posted English language financial statements on their websites. I ran across four or five small "zombie" Portland cement companies that were in business only because they were being subsidized my the government. I have to admit that I was a bit shocked at the large size of the subsidies.

It is going to take more than two years to eliminate the zombie companies without displacing a lot of workers.
