After that initial confusion two days after the grand posturing at the Argentinian dinner,

even though the clowns in the Trump team hemmed and hawed and had no choice but to pretend that they were on top of everything (note comment by Bolton) and knew about the Huawei arrest .......

..... I poked around and used my intuition (so shoot me, I am that way and use intuition a lot) and became convinced that the clowns had no clue this had happened until later. Much later, Kudlow (who is probably the most decent of the bunch, given the personal problems he has had to work through in life) confirmed as much on TV.

So put this together. That directive came out of Brooklyn (as far as we know). You can imagine that it was something authentic that had been in the works, or you can imagine that it was a plan to put a screw on the Trump plan. The coincidence makes me believe it's the latter. Well, because there are no coincidences.

I suspect also that Team Trump has somehow sent this message to Team Xi, along with a "we'll fix it". That explains the muted reaction.

Changing the topic somewhat, I am a very aware that the Anglo mind functions differently from the Asian mind and, in particular, the Far Eastern mind. This is very important, and habit makes this very easy to miss.

Culture is one of my favorite things. Money is not culture. Success is not culture. Technology is not culture. Culture is thousands upon thousands of years of something deep but unvoiced. Culture has a long mind (think time) and patience.

This very thing is what gives birth to a Kamikaze pilot or to the shame that causes a Chinese official to kill himself. So whatever the transgressions (imagined or otherwise) and whatever the inventive "indignations" on the part of the West, the losing formula is to think with the short-mind for short-term gain. This is the usual greedy algorithm at work. It is a losing formula when played against the long-mind. Loss with probability 1. A loose analogy is the gambler's time to ruin --- he is ruined for sure against the house. His finite money is the finite (short) Western time.

The West needs a brilliant leader with a long-mind. Finding one --- assuming this is possible --- will be its greatest challenge. This is almost impossible to understand when all thinking is short term. Just my simple-minded way of saying what I think.
