Dear Don and Scott: Novell narcissism is no mystery.

Scott for someone so intelligent, you knock my socks off when you plaster happy faces all over the place after reading numerous testimonials of potential Novell customers who have just stated that the new MS strategy means that they definitely won't buy NDS.

I don't give a fig about Novell's crowing on its own web page. Sounds like Narcissus admiring himself at the pond. Where is the confirmation outside of club cosy? If past experience tells shareholders anything, its that this is probably the only place (Novell's own web page) that any counter to MS juggernaut will be made. I hate to say it, but this is the usual follow-up from PR: impress everyone at Novell with a response on Novell's own website. Wow, too bad Novell doesn't buy its own products. Sales would be booming. Money may not mean much to you, but that's how companies stay in business: Making money, not patting themselves on the back upon reading that potential customers are not going to buy products.

Does the corporate culture deny the PR people the right to make any replies outside of lotus land? You may not be making loads of bucks, but there's a whole cast of fat cats who better get lean and mean in the real world. The huge momentum of NT implies that millions will follows MS directions. Novell is going to do all the tech support for NT? Man, that billion should be gone in a week.

Scott, you say you had no problem with the Moab beta and you can't figure out why someone at Lan Times did have problems. What's important isn't whether Novell employees can use the product. It's whether people in the real world are happy with it. And if they aren't, why not?

Scott, I hope I'm reading your replies incorrectly. I don't find lost business amusing and criticism from reviewers outside Novell should be dissected and the critics put on the block if they're incompetant.

Microsoft has a bunch of jerks, but they're selling product. They may be running scared, as you say, but they sure they haven't squandered billions on worhtless ventures made because they were proud and complacent about their own success.

Currently not smiling,
Lawrence
