What I know is that Norway is kind of like the United Arab Emirates. Four million people living on a lot of oil. They don't really have to work very hard. Denmark apparently earns all its foreign exchange from exports of Legos and pornography. Sweden has world-class industries, but I'm not sure of growth prospects. Finland has given us Nokia and some stellar contemporary architecture. Overall, with the exception of Sweden, I don't think Scandanavia has enough population to be much of a factor in European growth for our high tech companies.

I just hope for you there is nobody from Denmark on this board. I doubt he would feel appropriately described by exporting pornography ;-))

Seriously, Sweden has made the turn from an almost bankrupt state run economy to a free enterprise economy. They do have some impressive companies like Volvo, Saab, Astra, Ikea.
Norway really sits on enough oil to do no more than just sit there.
You are correct that compared to the major European countries Scandinavia is not really a factor for more growth. Nevertheless, I read that Scandinavia is the most advanced part in the world when it comes to the use of high tech, mostly cellular phones and PCs. The percentage of Internet users is even higher than in the US.
