COREL MISSES U.S. JUDGE'S DEADLINE
By SIMON TUCK -- Ottawa Sun
ÿ Corel Corp.'s judge-imposed deadline to explain its legal rights to reproduce the Mona Lisa and dozens of other masterpieces came and went yesterday afternoon without any word from the Ottawa firm.
ÿThe embattled software company had been given 24 hours to explain how it obtained the rights to reproduce some of the world's most famous works of art in a line of CD-ROMs. But Stephen Weingrad, a New York lawyer representing London, Eng.-based Bridgeman Art Library Ltd., which owns the reproduction rights to the art and has launched a lawsuit against Corel, said yesterday at 5 p.m. he had received nothing.
