12/14/2018 Contest update
Attention Biotechies: Although 2018 has been a brutal year for a majority of Contest portfolios, I still assume there’s enough interest in a 2019 Contest. And hopefully a year-end rally will boost that interest. So I plan to set up a 2019 Charity Contest Board and will post the link in next week’s Contest update. My current thinking is to set Tuesday, 1/1/2018, Midnight, PST as the Contest portfolio submission deadline. All comments welcome!

Another torturous week for Contest portfolios! At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -12.74% YTD (vs. down -7.83% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -4.54% YTD (vs. down -3.02% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -9.60% YTD (vs. down -7.94% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was up .11% YTD (vs. up .95% YTD a week ago).
Going into the final two weeks, we have a new leader! By declining less than the other top performers, THID’s portfolio, up 39.35% YTD, slid into first place. SPTAD’s portfolio, up 33.01% YTD fell to second place and POMP’s portfolio, up 29.09% YTD, moved into third place.
At Friday's close, just 16 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 19 beating the NBI and 27 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD loss of -13.01% and a median YTD loss of -29.37%, with only 75 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: OVAS did a reverse merger and now trader under the symbol MLND. Prior to the merger OVAS did 1-15 reverse split. TECHIE was the sole portfolio holding OVAS.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Have an enjoyable weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
