We know how to do universal health care. We can always expand medicaid or copy Canada's and the UK's and other western programs. How to do this is no mystery and we would have done it by now except for the fucking Republicans.

Definitely would be much better off with it now. But the transition is wicked difficult. The health insurance industry is extremely politically potent. The Dems would have to do something near definitive about campaign finance reform and get it validated by the SC. Not easy to see how that gets done.

In addition, the transition from the present employer based system to single payer has not been thought through. So far as I know. I'm assuming the best way is to move Medicare down agewise. And figure out the best way to move the tax basis from work to government. Just to mention this latter in a serious conversation is to turn one's head sideways.
