I'm not sure of the point you're getting at. He was in a low pressure high oxygen chamber when his burns (and he apparently caused the accident) occurred and he died many hours later in a hospital. Anyway, his identity and the accident itself was kept secret and unknown to the outside world until the mid 80's. There were various other accidents from oxygen environment testing in the US and former Soviet Union which predated or around the same time as the Apollo 1 accident, see: en.wikipedia.org
