my Dad was a pharmaceutical representative. He did very well selling to the military bases of New Mexico, but a couple times of year we hit every town that had a doctor or a pharmacy.

His company, Lederle, discovered the class of antibiotics known as tetracycline. It was a wonder drug. When the patents expired the company was sold to a conglomerate named American Cyanimid which promoted putting the drug into cattle feed by the ton, and so it became mostly ineffective by the 1970s.
