What did Babe Ruth know and when did he know it? Hindsight is always 20-20, but one has to wonder when did he know? Was it when he was giong to the park? Getting dressed? Lacing his cleats or batting practice? He must have known the crack would come, but when was he sure? Maybe when he walking to the plate. Standing at the plate with a couple of strikes on a hot summer afternoon and seeing an old buddy in center field. Babe must have thought "I'm not going to make him even bother running for it."
