12/21/2018 Contest update
Attention Biotechies: The 2019 Charity Contest Board is now up for portfolio submissions.
The Contest submission deadline is Tuesday, 1/1/2018, Midnight, PST. Here’s the link to the 2019 Biotech Charity Contest board:
Subject 60008

The earlier portfolios are posted, the easier it is for me to set up the Contest spreadsheets.

Please help me publicize the 2019 Contest by posting the Contest info and link on boards & Twitter sites where biotechies hang out.

Meanwhile, I suppose it could be worse in biotech land. But it sure doesn’t feel that way. Oy vey!
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was down -27.99% YTD (vs. down -12.74% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was down -15.08% YTD (vs. down -4.54% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was down -22.67% YTD (vs. down -9.60% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index (IXIC) was down -8.26% YTD (vs. up .11% YTD a week ago).
Heading into the Contest’s final days, THID’s portfolio, up 26.28% YTD, has a commanding lead. POMP’s portfolio, up 11.52% YTD, moved into second place and SPTAD’s portfolio, up 9.47% YTD, fell to third place.
At Friday's close, a mere 4 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 13 beating the NBI and 22 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks now have an average YTD loss of -27.10% and a median YTD loss of -40.00%, with just 52 showing a gain for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Merry Christmas to those celebrating the holiday.
And to all biotechies, have a safe & relaxing weekend!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
