am about 30 min south of Yangshuo (population 300k) which in turn is about 1 hour (70 km) south of a city called Guilin (population 1M) w/ international airport

the area is in Guangxi Autonomous Region (province of ethnic minorities, two main tribes) which borders Vietnam on the south, and Yunnan province on the west. Dali in Yunnan is supposedly the location for the fictional Shangri-la City.

The whole two provinces are essentially populated by lots of ethnic minority tribes folks.
