| | | In the US, we believe in Freedom of Speech. Any forum that becomes a prominent "public square" should be regulated as such to protect Freedom of Speech. No corporation or any other entity public or private should have the power to destroy Freedom of Speech. Among our rights, it is the most foundational and most important one. Without that single freedom, all others can be destroyed. I'm sorry you don't see that, but you are not alone. Most Americans are woefully ignorant about how we became so powerful and rich, and at one point, the envy of the world. We have fallen far from grace, I agree, but if we have any hope of correcting a bad situation, then Freedom of Speech will be a critical component of that, if not the only component that really matters.
You, me, and anyone with any brains in this country needs to do everything in our power to make Freedom of Speech sacrosanct in ALL forums, and most especially in the most important forums of our day, which are Google, Facebook, and Twitter. If we fail in that, then I can guarantee you, nothing else will matter, because everything else will fail.
Tyranny is no fun, not even for liberals. You will agree with me once you are living in fear of saying the wrong things, and realizing the consequences could be your entire retirement, or worse, your life or that of your family. |
