By last night’s deadline, 39 portfolios were submitted to 2019's Biotech Stock Charity Contest. Thanks much to all participants! A 39 portfolio Contest is quite a drop-off from 2018's 62 portfolios. So I’m a bit disappointed, but can’t say I’m surprised. I imagine the poor performance of biotech stocks in 2018 was discouraging to prior contestants who chose not to participate this year. Also, for the 2018 Contest, because of an intervening weekend there were three days between the 2017 final trading day and the Contest portfolio submission deadline. In contrast, for the 2019 Contest, there was just a single day between the 12/31/2018 final trading day and the 1/2/2019 Contest portfolio submission deadline. But, on the bright side, fewer contestants means everyone has better odds of winning. I will post all 39 portfolios, with % allocations and initial prices as soon as I can get to it.
