1/14/2019 Contest update (for first 3 trading days of 2019)
I hadn’t intended to post a Contest update today, figuring I’d wait until next Friday. But given today’s big market jump and the Celgene-buyout biotech pump, I reconsidered. And, I’ll admit, also a factor was my portfolio making it to the Top Ten (my expectation being this will be the only time it will do so this year. ;~)
So, here are the impressive numbers. At Friday’s close, after 2019's first three trading days, the Contest median was up 6.97%. Smaller gains were made by the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI), up 6.07%, the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), up 4.38%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI), up 1.56%.
HOOD’s portfolio, with 15% allocated to CELG, is in first place with a 15.38% gain for the three days. Second place goes to RKRW’s portfolio, up 14.34% YTD, with DOUGH’s portfolio, up 13.79% YTD, in third place.
At Friday's close, all 39 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 23 beating the NBI and 26 beating the SPSIBI.
The 167 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 8.60% and a median YTD gain of 6.45%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the three days ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: There’s much greater volume for Idorsia Ltd. on the Swiss Exchange. So I will track it using its symbol IDIA.SW rather than its OTC symbol, IDRSF.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy a safe & relaxing first weekend of 2019 biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
